Have you donated your eyes?

This is the eye donation fortnight. Mom and I donated out eyes three years ago to Rajan Eye Care, headed ably my Dr. Mohan Rajan and Dr. Sujatha Mohan Rajan. One cool couple, whom I met 5 years back at a party at the Race Club. Dr. Mohan has a superb sense of humour, and when I said that I was going to study Psychology, he immediately said he would provide me with a lot of patients, most of them friends, who were also present at the party that day. And when someone introduced him to me, and also added that he is a workaholic, he quickyl added that he is a workaholic by day and an alcoholic by night... of course all this was in jest. That was one evening I wont forget soon. And ever since, Mom and I have been part of all their important activities, and whenever there was any singing involved with inagurating his various facilities at his hospital, I was usually there. Mr. Amitabh Bacchan happened to come to his clinic, as they had to shoot for a forthcoming Hindi Movie. :D I mentioned only Mr. Bacchan because I am so in awe of him.. ! Of course there were so many super people who have been involved right from Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala and many names in the international arena.

And with time our friendship has grown stronger, though we hardly meet, except to check our eyes and mom's. And a few of our friends who have gone there have succesfully given their contact lenses and spectacle a decent burial, after the laser surgery... they are one dynamic couple... :)

And there was also a walk for Dyslexia (A learning disorder marked by impairment of the ability to recognize and comprehend written words) which happened at the Marina Beach today, organized by V Excel (headed by Vasudha aunty) and MOP Vaishnav College.

As for me, I am still hunting or the linguists, and mom and I are working on something too. work is great. And I have a few concerts lined up for the first week of september! Looks like its going to be a great month!

Lots more interesting things to come.... thou shalt wait with bated breath !!!

Do you often do this self-talk to keep yourself motivated ;) LOL

Chinmayi Sripada /Chinmayee said...

Arvind: we dont have to motivate ourselves much.. we are motivated by default ;) of course if you can take a voirgo's criticism, nitpicking and some are organizational and cleanliness freaks, we are pretty lovable...
let me tell you that mom think I am disorganized and usually mess up the house, but when I clean me is damn good :)

Hey, Ganesh/Jimmy, Athenna Virgo Rules???

Ok. Amen. Virgo Rules, Shall we get over this now?? Guys, 'Its the person you are' counts more than your star sign. Star sign issomething that just sticks to us because of our birth. And , Our date of birth isnt decided by us or our sign either.. So there's nothing like this sign is superior and that sign is inferior. Get over it... (now, i can see s.one mimicking 'Yes Boss') :-)

BTW, Jimmy, do u donate blood often?

Magnus.

Ila: In case you did nt know, linguists at the embassies are hyper expensive.

Magnus: Apprehensive about donating blood. God knows if the needles are sterilized. And also this virgo-rules talk is in jest.. :D

sorry that was by me :D

Noble act. Lots of (even) educated people are apprehensive about eye donations and of course religion and myth of re-birth also plays a role in inhibition from the donors.

I have pledged my eyes to be donated on death and in fact started a campaign at my workplace spreading awareness on eye donation.

Btw, I have added ur blog to my blogrolling list.

Hey chins, what happened? still in the search? ok lemme help you with another information!

In Nelson Manickam Road, there is this Japanese school called ABK AOTS....this is where I learnt....there are lot of tutors out there who could do such translation for you for a cheaper rate! try itout!

You seem to live out your ideals and that is not only a rare thing but a great thing too. Good luck :-)

Ram said...

Why that is a great thing to do! Celebrities usually make a big fuss about such donations, but you have really downplayed it in a sense. This shows how valuable a person you are!

Rags said...

Great gesture...Not many people do it..

Expecting a great Number from you and Rahman combo soon...

Well, if u r so apprehensive abt sterilized needles, u cud donate blood at a place which u find urself satisfactory, For eg, i've donated at CMC vellore, Apollo - Greams Rd. there are many more, u can rely on them, jus go to the place and then decide. thts what i did to most of friends, took them along with me when i donated, and automatically they too got into the flock for this wonderful gesture.

And regarding eye donation i'll giv one more tip. even though u register with an organisation, its always better to carry a eye-donation card in the wallet stating,

I'm an eye donor. The nearest eye bank should be contacted immediately and removed within 6 hrs of my death so tht it cud be donated.

Cos, no one knows where we'll be when we die. Say, like me, even though i've registered for eye donation 3 yrs back in India, now i'm far away. I carry tht card ever since. So if i die here, the persons here would know what to do. Hope u too carry tht card with u everywhere. Its just an awareness thing to say to evry eye donor to do tht... :-)

Just remembered a joke when you mentioned dyslexia.

'Have you heard of the dyslexic agnostic insomniac? He sits up all night wondering if there is dog in the universe.'

:-) Hope someone enjoyed it...

Chinmayi,
Good gesture - Donating Eyes.

Just a thought... We can help the humanity when we are alive, better than what we can do after death. Reminds me of Anbe Sivam.

"Paropakaram Itham Sareeram !".
