on another blog. Thanks to, yup an anonymous commenter. I usually do not take anonymous comments sending me links, seriously. Anyway, have a read of these posts

Very apparently anonymous belongs to a spiritual movement going by his comment. Please note that this does not mean I am supporting or subliminally asking you to join up with a spiritual organization. With all due respect to them.
Just happened to come across these, as I have mentioned already, thanks to an anonymous commenter, found them to be good reads and that which we need at this time. Just attempting that at least those who come to this blog, who are valid voters, go about voting on the said dates. Please do not waste your vote and encourage bogus voting. Its heresy, but I have heard that those who do not cast their votes actually do a major disservice to those who take the trouble to go and vote. The votes of those who do not land up at the polling booths become "kalla votes" I hear. So whether you land up or not your vote is being used. So make sure, if you haven't voted before, make sure that your vote is used by you and not someone else.

Chinmayi,
Long time reader, first time commenter on your blog. Great job! Thanks for those links, especially the one on reservation. I'll be leaving a comment on that blog on what I think about the issue. In short, one only needs to look at the T.N. medical entrance cut-off marks for the various reservation categories from, say the mid-80's to what they are now. That would prove the genius of our own "founding fathers", esp. Dr. Ambedkar, who came up with this magic wand of a tool. Peace.

Great to know you were blogging.
I'm one of the recent listeners from USA trying to get the feel of Chennai through aahaa FM.

It is really nice to see you have taken the plunge to keep every day intersting with new & very relevant topics for the society.

Keep up the great work!

Is there a website for aahaaFM,that gives us an idea to the faces of voices that we hear?

I happen to search for aahaaFM images and Google landed me here!

I hope you know this.

There is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone!

Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O".

Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"... Because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled .

Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them .

This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political system... It is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public....

It will also bring a solution to kalla volte if you are not going to vote.

If you do/don't know about this can you take this as a topic in aaha kapi club and post your comments

Please spread this news to as many as you know...... Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India... Show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting... So don't miss your chance. So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this info on...

Hi Chins,

Just wanted to share that the rule 49-O can be used to show that you[if u r a valid voter] are not willing to vote. It seems that this rule came by 1961 itself and still many people are not aware[atleast in rural areas]..
Election Commission should actually tell about this rule to citizens. If in a particular constituency more than half of the voters goes by this and show their solidarity against criminals, non-eligible candidates then that itself is enough to teach a lesson for them.

You can find more about the rule @
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/49-O

TN election commision has a online copies of all the registered electoral list users @ the below link.
http://blogs.alagukannan.com/2009/02/27/india-electoral-roll-list-search/
Please pass this info to ur listeners to check before going to vote. Too lazy to grab the links from my own posts.
This would help the voters from avoiding a trip to booth on the day off voting which my dad does it all time.
Thx
