iPhone - iWent, iSaw and i-AmNotConquered

And I happened to check out an iPhone first hand.. it reminds me of the O2 and all that. I gingerly held it and checked out what it is like and the touch screen responds only to jabs.. Looks like feather touch is out of fashion. And jab with the fingertip; if there is a stylus I didn't see it. And the phone is like a maze as long as I am concerned. Say, you have time on your hands, and you are wondering what the phone is like and you decide to take a tour. And I got lost and took me a while to figure out how to come to start point. Just before you start smirking about women not being able to find their way anywhere, bite your tongue or your thoughts :)
And also heard it guzzles battery. I heard a song on the phone, Hayley Westenra, (she sings very well and looks a million bucks) but other than that, I am not in the least impressed with this one. I am a huge Mac fan (as a lot of people know) and I expected magic to unfold in my palm once I held this much expected piece of tech.
We have the Sony Ericsson P900 and the Communicator and needless to say both of them are dated. I am bored with keeping tabs and I realize that lately, I have dropped out of the race to own the latest in mobile phones. Of course unless something blows me away I am not putting my bucks in another one not until our phones breathe their last.

The i-Phone, albeit the 1 Million sales thing, is a general letdown here in the US as well. Well, await the G-Phone, if and when Google makes it.

well, technology, like music, lives more by the mood appeal. if the iPhone, or the new moto razr2, or the nokia 3310 or whatever gives you the wow- touches that chord that speaks of yourself, its hit the target... ur hooked!
if it instead fails to create an impression- positive or negative, no feature will blow you its way. much like music- if it fits the listener's mood, the ragas, beats, voice and the million other paraphernalia don't even matter... if it fails to connect, one can always look for a missed point!

:-) after all, arts, technology, music, cars, sports, love and washing machines all thrive by a common denominator- end user perception.

A lot of busy people still consider a phone as a communication instrument :)

With the current input methods [excluding voice], i believe, they can't go much further in smartphones. It's a pain in the eye, takes more time & requires more effort.

Hmmm... iPhone is not sooo good.. Try checking out the HTC Touch (release only with Airtel now in India and hasn't released in US still).. It is awesome!

But, it runs WM6 :)

You can always wait for the ZunePhone from Microsoft. Here is their ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRKIDdIaFyE

Cheers :-)

Good decision!!!
Dont want to sound negative, but a phone is for talking - looks like the latest ones do everything except catching signals well!!! And the iPhone is indeed a letdown, its price has been slashed to less than half within a few months of release -too much hype and no performance obviously.

When iPhone was first shown to public, its impressive design/UI reminded me that I have a blog of my own and that I should blog about it. But, somehow the excitement went down due to many factors. Anyway, what about P990i? Heard, its selling (??) at a very cheap price now. One of my colleague got it for 18k with bill. But then its already out of the market and P1i is the successor.

You comments on Hayley Westenra within parenthesis got me curiuos to listen to her. She indeed sings very well and she has got a very beautiful voice too. So, thanks a bunch to you for mentioning about her. Giving a youtube link if anyone is interested to listen to her.

Long way to go for Apple in Mobile Phones...

it depends on the user. some would like a ultra small and light phone and don really care about its features.
and some would like their phone to do alot of stuff. and the iphone does alot of stuff too, and it is big and probably won't fit into my tight jeans.

iPhone is a breakthrough in innovation... we have to respect the product as well as the company because they have been showing the way for all the user interfaces which have been copied by most unethical of companies like Microsoft(take the case of mouse) and all other mobile fone manafactures say nokia and sony erricson (who dont even innovate on technology front) but how does a lay end user realize all this things... all he wants is cheap products and not really bothered about the quality andn kind of research the company has put in..(especially we Indians)

its always been like this and will be.. where the real innovators dont get the credit.... this is where patents(forgive me stallman...) should pitch in and save such companies and provide value to all their efforts!!

Wats disappointing is how the most knowledgeable and educated of crowds really dont appreciate kind of research and the effort they put in to make exciting ideas work.....

tarakeshwar, just wondering.... didn't apple copy the mouse idea from Zerox?

Educated Crowd need not necessarily be 'wise' or 'right' :)

By the way friend, You may have the most innovative shoes that help you walk backwards at the same speed but the question is, who needs it?

I disagree. iPhone is a really a kind of revolution in mobile phones and a shift in gear as far as focus in Mobile industry is concerned. I found it extremely user friendly and a class of its own. Now I cant use any other phone! Basically the killer app in iPhone is the OS (OS X, Mobile); Currently there is no match for the OS that is running on this mobile device and unless someone comes up with a better OS, iPhone is going to stand out. Ofcourse there are lots of teething problems (which is true for any newly launched hardware and software), subsequent generation of should solve those. Ofcourse it is pricey and thats Apple for you!

Yes M$ did copy the interface and added 'features' that were hit off very well. iPhone on the other hand is something that is composed by ripping off ideas from several sources (refer to the article in the source below)

They are going to charge 0.99c for every ringtone that gets converted to be used with iPhone. This is additional to the song cost that you pay for downloading the tune via iTunes. once you lose your iPhones you have pretty much lost all your song collection and the money you paid downloading them. now there are ways to get around it which is not known to many. iPhone is going to make apple the biggest monopolist and give them the power M$ till not does not have.

'iPhone is a really a kind of revolution in mobile phones'

no sorry apple does not deserve the revolutionary title.

iPhone is an (over!) exaggerated version of XDA (big brother of PDA). Bound to fail ...

There are certain things in life that may get smaller in size (e.g., communication devices, camera) and certain others may get bigger (e.g., tv) to pull the customers. If you try to combine those two extreme ends, you will only end up in 'thirisangu sorgam'.

MAC OS is good on big/powerful systems. It is altogether a different game in the embedded world. Symbian, which drives Nokias and Sony ericcssons, is the front runner... now.

I'm a big fan of the iPod, i really haven't had a chance to check out an iPhone. I don't know what is the operating system that powers the iPhone, but i do know that infenion systems is their SOC provider. That probably explains why it has such. poor power management.
