Sangeeta Maha Yuddham on Sun TV from June 26th

And this is the show I am hosting. And not anything else, thank you very much :)

The press release was today and hence according to protocol, I can speak about the show. If you have watched Music ka Maha Muqabla on Star Plus, this is more or less the same thing, albeit in Tamil.
The show will have 6 teams captained by playback singers Vijay Yesudas, Devan Ekambaram, Madhu Balakrishnan, Mathangi, Srilekha Parthasarathy and Anupama.
Every team will compete with the others in the round-robin method and each episode will see two teams compete against each other. The teams will have their respective captains and 3 players. The 4 captains that are not playing on the said day, become the judges of the other two teams' performance/competition.  Hence we have the singers becoming competitors in one episode and judges in another.

The schedules have been awesome fun and working with the man who started it all, or rather brought music shows to Indian TV, Mr. Gajendra Singh has been an enriching, learning experience. He is the pioneer behind Antakshari and Sa Re Ga Ma from which most of the music shows in South Indian television were inspired. Shall take some pictures in the next schedule and post them here. And to answer another set of questions, yes I am going to be singing in these episodes too, (non competitively of course) quite unlike Super Singer.

So every Saturday and Sunday 9:30 PM, Sangeeta Maha Yuddham on Sun TV. Watch it if you can.

(Saw the promo today and felt I sounded a bit loud though I hadn't upped my voice level that much. I always had that feeling when I was hosting Super Singer too. Don't know what they do with the balancing that make it shout out)

Hey Chinmayi ! All the best and have fun...its been a lil while after super singer...

wow!..Hosting means you are supposed to start the show with a beautiful song daily, that's enough for us.

It is starting in telugu also. with "Udaya Bhanu" as host and with 6 singers. but i will try to watch the two shows simultaneously when the shows are hosted on same time. in telugu they did not declare the show timing.

Hey Chinmayi,

I feel that you sometimes speak faster and people had to really sharpen their ears and catch your words and sometimes when you start speaking you really speak slowly so every word has a good time gap.

I think it would be great if you can balance this and speak in a medium speed always.

Thanks

I'm SMSing my boy Seacrest to tune in and see what real hosting looks like. As the host, are you going to have to give shout outs to some sponsors? If not, you're probably getting lowballed on your compensation...as you know, even veggies have to bring home the bacon!

BTW, is there a show with the same name on Zee Tamil? I'm sorry, I live abroad and I don't follow the program schedules.

Maybe for fun, how would it be if Bharathi were to envision of TV shows with the following lines: pottigal(competitions etc) illayadi pappa. Maybe the reality is so filled with competitiveness, that TVs have but to reflect them!!
long live Dar'win'.

Anonymous said...

Contiuing on pottigal illayadi pappa, what if you think of a format in which two teams or individuals sing, then each evaluates the other and provides marks for the different dimensions of the song, and of course a third judge could also give marks, and the winner of the show are those dimensions that scored high by adding all marks. Thus music wins in each show, of course with different dimensions coming first second or third in each show. It will be truly music-serving and self-humbling, which is what I thought music should do, and will promote appreciative inquiry in our kids instead of ignoring or 'rival'ling the other.

all the very best... & may the show be a success mainly for the contestants.. but don't u think we've had enough of all the singing & dancing shows... y do we have to keep coming up with new ones every few months... i've long stopped watching them... at least the hindi ones, where it's like gone too far & the contestants remain just what they are.. reality singing competition contestants & nothing more...
Can't we be more creative or atleast copy better shows from the west.. like say 'the apprentice' & i heard there's this super reality show in egypt that follows the same format as apprentice but the focus is not on entrepreneurship but on tackling social issues....
Hope we tamils can lead the way.... these will be some shows I will definitely watch...

Just watched the first episode of SMY. Great to see you back in hosting. Just the first episode, still one could say you are carrying the show very well. (I guess its the energy that makes all the difference). Looking forward. All the best, Chinmayi.

Btw, I had a wrong guess that you would show up with the song 'Oru deivam ..'. Good surprise, but that helped to guess the introduction songs of other singers :-)

Everyone who thought that the black sari was a disaster - Yes I know. Sometimes I am easy to get convinced when the stylist tells me that this is THE LOOK, and THE WAY to wear it. The 6 yards weren't really 6 yards either and we did have a tough time managing the height, which was way shorter than a sari is supposed to have.. Couldn't help it.. After a point if the presenter does not cooperate, they are called tantrum-atic. So hence, for the sake of peace, I just went with it. This is also a live demo for general understanding on what happens. So next time round you read a random gossip column in a paper about someone throwing a 'tantrum' about the clothes, and jump to conclusions and then eventually discuss over your coffee table - think twice.

U r really really awesome such that no one could even think about a reply for the black saree (lol).. Well I really mean it... Ur intro song was fabulous... I had a doubt that it would have been a recorded one...Is it?

Chinmayi Sripada /Chinmayee said...

Nope. I have never done that so far. Maybe I will, on TV esp if I happen to have lost my voice on the day of a shoot and voice is not singable. Live show would have to be canceled or worse audience will have to bear my voice. The track is pre-made. No one can play Mayya Mayya live :)

Well than that voice was really mesmerizing... I know its really unfair to compare two reality shows.. But, worth to mention, SMY will do better than ASS.. particularly juniors.. That was such an energetic opening for the new show.. I feel happy for you!! and thanks for taking enough time to reply too :)

Chinmayi Sripada /Chinmayee said...

Shameem: Sorry but a lot of what you are saying seems baseless.
Why should there be any connection? And its better to have an open mind. I dont know what you mean by it does not suit to have audience cheering and clapping in a Tamil show. Like really??? How do you define a Tamil show? And my question is why should anything that is being conceived on TV stick to the definition given by you? And no I am not the one who came up with the names. And there is a reason why it is done. The team in Mumbai that work on MkMM is working in this one too. The concept and team is all same. Only the language and channels are different. And is being made simultaneously in Tamil Telugu Kannada and Malayalam. That is all I ll say

Sabareesh said...

Hi I saw the last saturday episode of SMY...

I saw a competitor singing the Maiya Maiya song...

I saw tat u became soo enthusiastic hearing the song being sung,..

Once the competitor is done with her part...
The whole audience and viewer's expectation was If Chinmayi sings the same song in this stage it would be fabulous...

There came u and gave the songs in ur own style and it took the show to the peak...

"Charpar barse charpar barse mehulo, yevelo yevelo
Charpar barse charpar barse mehulo, hey ji re e hey ji re e hey ji re
Charpar barse charpar barse mehulo"

It was superb, I dono how u hum those lyrics tat fast...like a super fast express!!

Dear Chinmayee,
This is my first ever comment in a blog after seeing a TV Show. I googled your name and found your blog. I have been living in USA since last 10 years with my family and my parents are still in Chennai. We know you as a great singer so far and your Kannathil Muthamittal tamil song is uncomparable. I never watched any of your program earlier since we watch only SUN TV at home. We started watching SMY in SUN TV and it was only 4 episodes done so far. Myself and my wife are counting every day to watch this SMY next show. Your presentation is simply superb. Your voice is god's greatest gift. Only few singers can excell in conducting a stage show apart from singing. We thought you were little bit nervous in the first 2 shows since you were not smiling a lot during your presentation. But in the later 2 shows your style of taking the show was amazing and your smile is a great plus to you. We want to see you more singing also in the show. My wife is also a great fan of you and she like your voice and your way of conducting the show. We record program thro' Dish Network provided DVR and we watch the program daily and we will not miss any of your presence. You have the capability to conduct any kind of top class show in the country. This is not just my comment and I predict you will start achieve more after this show. I am sure you will gain world wide fans after this show. You are not only the great singer and ofcourse you know all your strong area. God bless you on your every effort. I will try to add my comment after seeing more SMY episodes.

hi chinmayi

nice to see u in smy, after super singer.. all the best! i've seen mkmm, its a nice concept :) though i hope smy wud be smooth sailing n there wont be any clashes between the team captains like on mkmm!

Dear Chinmayi,
We watched the recent SMY episode in SUN TV after we started counting the days since last week end. I don't know how this happened. Since I was expecting a lot our TV dish network DVR started having some issues just after the program started on Saturday. I think you started singing on the show after the usual introduction. We had to call our TV network support and they helped fixing the issue finally. By the time we were able to watch the program we missed half the program. Anyway we were able to watch teh remaining program on Saturday and the full program on Sunday.

This show was simply superb. We have not watched any of your show in Vijay TV. Your compering skills are extra ordinary. We have not seen any one so far in any of the leading channels the way how you host the show. Where were you so far? Why you are so late? I noticed in the web you sung your first song in 2002 for Kannathil Muthamittal. Almost 8 years are over. Definetely you would have known your talent much earlier and you could have taken this additional profession long time ago. Apart from your sweet voice, your voice modulation especially the interaction with the Singer Madhu Balkrishnan was excellent. Confidence is the most important thing one should have when hosting a show. You perfectly have this skill apart form all other required skills. I felt your Sunday show was very good than Saturday show. wish you all the best!

Hi,

First time I have seen you hosting a show. I have heard so much about your performance in other channels, and to be very true, watching you hosting SMY with more expectations, and must admit you did not disappoint me, except your dressing. Seriously what’s wrong?

Nice concept for a show. There are few good singers and couple outstanding to be considered better than professional ones.

Now the glitch. I am not convinced if grading system in the show has any value. It looks like the judges has some personal animosity making a mock of the result. As a viewer, I care a damn about what the judges think about each other. You cannot judge correctly if your position to progress to next round will be influenced by the current match-up. For example, Srilekha Parthasarathy will have to make sure that Anupama's team lose to Madhu's team if they were to move on. She mentioned she was not happy with the chorus support that Anupama got. Well, oh well.

One of the judge made a remark that one contestant lost shruthi 3 times. Is that a comment? When the contestant persisted where he lost it, she mentioned that she didnt track it.

Couple of team "leads" get away with atrocious shrutis, some are really uncomfortable with putting the other in their place. How can one pro as judge pass a bad comment without sounding fair about another professional, especially on TV?

Your intro song for the show is good. I personally feel that it would be better if statements after that make any sense to the show.

I know this is not the forum to opine about the show, you are the hostess and I perfectly understand if dont approve the post. I couldnt post this on Sangeetha Mahayuddham website, its not up as I write this. I am a consumer of anything related to Indian music (Tamil in particular), happy to see you perform at a high level. Good luck :)
