Aahista Aahista.....

Snatching some time to blog. This song has been looping in my player and in my brain for about 4-5 days now. Actually its been looping subconsciously from the day I heard it. This song has made me smile, put me in retrospective mode, made me weep..... Its wonderful to listen to Mr Udit Narayan's not to mention the soft strains of Ms. Sadhna Sargam's voice. BTW its the song from Swades.
I really marvel at Mr Udit Narayan's capacity as a singer. He can sing total 'gaana' songs and songs like this. And its taken me quite a long time for my pea brain to understand that though this song seems to be slow, its actually not. It has a quite a pace.

Most of the times, I cant work or do anything else when I am listening to music, contrary to what most people. Cant concentrate on anything else. .....It would have been something to listen to Rahman sir weave his magic in the song. I had the chance to listen to him play for the first time, when he played in En Uyir thozhiye in Kangalal Kaidhu Sei. It was as if the Raag Durga just flowed through to his keyboard. Fluid. Total bliss for about... how long I dont remember.. but it was one of the best Durga-s I have ever heard. More than singing for him, I wish I could be the fly on the wall and hear him play. I have heard it a couple of times, but as a rasika, I really long to hear more of that.............................. if only words could translate music..

Wish sometimes, I could have had the talent of a poet, for none other than he who is talented in poetry could find the right words to describe music. As for me, whatever I say with describing music is concerned falls way too short of what I want to express. Thats where some words help.. spellbound. speechless.

Hi Chinmayi,

I am prabhu, an ardent reader of your blog since Jan. Your song in KM is my forever-favourite, and your voice is soul-softener. A small tribute to you :-)

Coming to the topic, It is amazing to hear that you got a chance to listen to him play keyboard. I am a crazy fan of THE R FACTOR and his music, since the greatest ever masterpiece, Roja. Since then, it was an appeasing and heartful journey with his music.

Yes I like Kangalal Kaidhu Sei a lot. All the numbers are mindblowing. One among them Theekuruvi is a variety which is exceptionally new to hear and should be of a different genre I guess.. can you throw some light on these song's description as I am a ABAARA GNANA SOONIYAN in terms of music.

Inspired by my GOD Rahman, I am into learning keyboard since a month. Cant stop the excitement that builds in my innerself when I go to classes!

Accidentally a Software Engineer, aspire a musical instrument !

Many a times I have come across beautiful songs, beautiful poetry. However, I don't even attempt to get into describing their beauty for my vocabulary always fails me. I really feel handicapped during such times. Many feelings remain unexpressed. I totally identify with you on that respect.

I believe this beautiful song is
based on Charukesi..
After two songs in Charukesi..Udhaya Udhaya and
Edho Edho Ondru (E20U18) that
seemed to resemble each other
for the strings and all...Rahman delivered another Charukesi
with an entirely different
arrangement..quiet silent and
ambient..the vibraphones..the whole sound design beautifully expressing
the bedtime moment..though Udit ji
did a great job..makes me think if
the male should have sounded more softer for a lullaby...Sadhna was
too good..especially when she starts off..blissful song..play it
for insomnia!!

I found your blog while searching for a translation of the songs on 'Swades'. I know this post of yours is an old post - but I thought you would find it amusing that an American woman from the U.A. who has never spoken Hindi also finds the songs from the movie 'looping through her brain'!Only for me it's 'Ye Jo Des Hai Tera'. It's in my dreams, I wake up with it in the morning, I cannot get it out of my head. I may even begin to learn the language through it! So strange. Such powerful music...?

Srinivasan: I am a fan of all music irrespective of any form, culture or language - should say that like the sakasa packshi I want to live only for music. (No, I am not a pro, not a student either - what to say - I want to lose and disappear in music, thats all).
This one - Aahista Aahista - My God, while the song is like a breeze (equivalent like kaatrinile varum geetham) - actor - Sharukh also has done a good justification to the song. The quite moment in the night, singing for mother to sleep in the disguise as if singing for his son (I had not seen the movie - only the clip in youtbe - hence I maybe wrong in the relationship). I believe in hte same film , yeh taara woh taara har taara was also a good one - I believe it is in Malayamaratham.

More than Rahaman, it is the raga that captivates. Every raga has something to do with our feelings. some in a ligher effect-some with a heavy effect. (Like think of shanmugapriya or shubapanthu varali - I dont know if we can have light songs on them). But nevertheless they are all the inventions of our musical ancestors - who have lived their life for music - with a divine dedication. My pranams to all of them.

As part of your songs, I like your sahana if not for all to be truthful. You should avoid banking on your voice timbre but focus on best renditions like Latha - Latha's voice would do something more than the song - which is actually she contributes to the song giving life to it. REcent examples like your Naan mutham thinbaval or the Enthiran song - first one is certainly a tough song - but not your type. You are a very good singer but attempt to do too many things which brings you down as a one other singer than a best singer. Please do not take this as an advice but you may want to look into your inner self deeply to understand your interests. Your blog shows how much you love music - you are a gifted singer as well - please get into serious music. I wish you all the best of achievements.

Thanks for the posting - though I saw this very late :(
