Blue Elephant and the Translation Industry - my two cents

A full fledged interview not talking about my singing at all.

It came in the online versions of The Hindu and the Hindu Businessline yesterday. Figured out I tweeted but didn't blog about it.

Yes..that's the first thing I noticed as well. Am sure it must feel good..
Well expressed thoughts - Even though I have no experience in the translation service industry, have to say that the potential is simply large for a company like yours. And I learned something about the unique challenges for someone wanting to do this from India.
Good Luck!

Hi Chinmayi,
What is the reason behind the name "Blue Elephant"? Just curious.

Read your interview!

Weird to read a interview not labeling you as a singer!

Your company had worked on 118 languages eh? - Amazing stat!

Well I have always had this doubt...

Is it necessary to have manual translators or interpreters?

Wouldn't it be better to invest on giants like Google or Microsoft to come up with translator software?

Or, have you already incorporated such translator software?

Imagination: Simple imagination and recall value :)
Deepak: Yes it is. Its just like even though you have samples around the world, you need a singer in to record the song live. Language and translation is as much a talent like everything else. Its not a simple word by word conversion process. There is a lot that is perceived, read between the lines, humour, irony and satire and so many other things that cannot be comprehended by a software.
Especially on reading up literature on the web it makes sense to use such software because when we read we don't go over every word. We sometimes glance through lines, skip some, omit some paras totally and get the gist of what is being said as a whole. But if you are having a product or a service that you want a community speaking a language other than your own to know of, then professional localization and translation is necessary.

Fortune: I think there should be more informed people who would be able to help you with that. As for me, I think two of the songs I have sung *might* be what you are looking for. Kangalaal Kaidhi Sei and Nala Damayanti. And there is a song by GV Prakash, its perhaps in this movie called Vellithirai, sung by Naresh Iyer/Chitra ji. They have their solo versions. I shall keep you posted if I can remember/come across something. But am sure other commenters here will definitely be able to suggest something
