So here comes another question which I could not find answer to myself.
I decide to get a video editor, and liking Final Cut Pro, and then the bomb drops that it does not work on Intel based Macs.
And then goes the search to see whether Avid would work, and I am not sure with all the technical specs that I see there. I heard a whoosh just above my head, and I knew that is how the information flew past.
Now could anyone tell me whether Avid would work on the MacBook Pro?
And if it so happens, as I heard from another source, that I need to invest on a desktop to work on avid since it might/does slow down the system.
And if it has to be a new system, what should the specifications be like?
TIA

I presume you are going to "buy" the software. You can buy Final Cut Pro. It will work on Intel based Macs. System Requirements for Final Cut Pro starts with A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor. See http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/specs.html for full specifications. (Look for "Final Cut Studio 2 System Requirements" on the right-most column.)
I agree with you about the Avid web site. It's hard to design such a good-looking but useless web site; Avid has done a good job ;-) Did you try using their software? I am afraid it may have a lot of usability issues. (Take this with a grain of salt; I have never used any commercial video editing software.)
It is not that hard to find, check http://www.avid.com/products/xpresspro/features.asp
and

This is for Xpress Pro 5.7 there is also a listing for Media Composer etc.

I don't think Final Cut Pro is available stand alone anymore. You will have to buy the whole Final Cut studio that also has motion, soundtrack and dvd pro alongwith final cut pro. The other option is to go for Final Cut Express. Both Final Cut studio and Final cut express work on Intel Macs.
i am pretty sure that FCP works on intel macs.. i have it working on my imac, my mac book pro and my mac pro at work..
i am assuming u want high end editing, but frankly speaking try imovie play with it a lot and u will be surprised how much u can achieve out of it..
Uh Oh ! Not again !
Are you still on a mac ? Tch Tch
it works fine for me. but mac os x not sure (yet) about leopard thou.
The Avid Media Composer works on MacPro. With Unity, there is a small bug which sometime the bins disapear. 2.72 is being introduced tomorrow which supposedly eliminates this issue. I have seen a beta version of this and it increases rendering time linear speed with multiple processors with the DNxHD codecs.
