Behind the veil of anonymity

.. a lot of people find it very easy to comment. I had once disabled anonymous commenters on this blog, because there was a lot of spamming for one. And of course it was very easy for a few people that don't like me to call me names. And small wonder, to the comments section to bad mouth the people I like.
Post PodWorks, there was Sagaro who asked me "what about Wordpress users?" And there I went enabling anonymous comments. The other day there was a commenter who sent me one saying I can't hold a candle to two other young and definitely hugely successful playback singers, whose names I shall not mention here, and that I am a piece of crap. To each his own.
No one knows about people's real names in the the web unless you know them offline and know of their online presence. When this is the case, most people go under the "anonymous" tag when they want to criticize.
I want to reiterate that I shall not publish any comments that degrade people in the industry, people I know or even do not personally. If I do, I believe that it will look like I am party to a person's views as long as criticizing someone else is concerned, if I publish them here. It is a very sincere request, that if you want to criticize another musician/popular person, please do so in your own Blog. And if you need to criticize me, please key in an EMail, I shall be glad to respond.

P.S.: Spell checked!! :D

Beautifully Taken :)! Well, as for what I see, haters are everywhere. I bet you a billion bucks if you could find me a way to a place where there are no haters...where everybody likes everybody else...where no one is badly criticized...and called names! For this reason, asking them to stay away would be "welcoming" them.

So there you have a good way to handle that! 4 stars!

It is commonplace in India to view celebs as a not a normal person form ..
People do not realize , at the end of the day everyone 's the same , and all these celebs try to do is to try to entertain u with their versatile talents
and it is human nature to err ..
What one doesnt think abt is , how does one perform when he/she goes in the stage ..

I completely back u on this issue Chinmayi and its a nice effort to put down all these in words.

I also suggest , do not publish any anonymous comments ,whether wrong or right. If they have guts ,let them sign with their own name !

Chinmayi You actually recieved such a comment ?.. Thats so dumb ! Ya ! I know ! Its so simple to just critisize nowadays ! Its like a hobby for some people ! Urgh ! I completely know what u feel ! If a normal blogger like me can recieve insultive comments then i cant possibly think about the umpteen ones u recieve ! Its good to disable anoynomous comments ! You have a reputation to uphold ! So just continue doing it ! Dont change that for anyone !

Unfortunately these are the price paid to be famous and it happens every where, good in India we don't have camera persons running around the "Famous" and brings out the personal things too.

It's really tough to shut the gossiping mouth. A Good idea is to just analyze these blog and then to publish. I suppose these happens almost in all blogging sites. Should find some way to remove these spam blogs.

Anonymous said...

Haha...I have never understood this. People read the whole post and yet again get anonymous to call it a bull****! Frustrating.

Wonder what they do for their living.

Well, what's your email?

I think you should just shoo them away and give a damn to it Chinmayee. It is indeed sad that people give such crap anonymously. The recent mention by Paul Potts is what comes to my mind.. :“My dream is to spend my life doing I feel what I was born to do”

SHEETAL AMBAR said...

Chinmayi! U recieve comments like the one above ?.. ! For someone who reads it on ur blog and get pissed off ! U actually read tons of this crap a day ! How pathethic and lame can ppl get man ! Some ppl just have no life ! Pity them !

chinmayi get a reality check, there are thousand and one singers in India , like you who rise and fall every day, only someday as tactical as lata mangeshkar can survive 75 years of singing.

You seem to have generated handful of fanclub, who seem to adore you have nothing, just take a look at your blogs, how is that you can get only praises that is because you dont publish loads of shit thing people say about you.

What is worng with anonymous comments as long as it is critical everthing is perfect.

Chinmayi Sripada /Chinmayee said...

you love some, you hate some.. you are welcome to your hate comments. go on, as much as you want to

Anonymous said...

omg Chinmayi! This anonymous fellow is really really pissing me off. Wonder how you are being so soft to him/her too!

Dude...I can see that you dont seem to admire her. Why dont you just stay away?? We like her and we want this place to be clean. come on man...stop this.

Anonymous said...

I dont understand, why you classify a classical critical view of your blog as hate driven.

Anyways my viewpoint remains your blog sucks, your just an another frog living in the well.

Chitoor Thandina Katpaadi Chinmayi Thandina Chennai that is as far as your singing limit.

SHEETAL AMBAR said...

I would like to say this to all future anoynomous commenters !
This is her blog ! She has the right to write what she wants ! And thats what a blog is for ! To xpress ur own feelings ! Noone has the right to say anything wrong abt anyones personal thoughts !

* Haiz *

Criticism can be taken positive. More often, whatever things you do, the first thing you will be criticised. Generally stars won't bother about these bullshit critics. Hope you don't bother about this. Let that goes on its way. Simply ignore it if the ball is really not on your court..

Chinmayi, dont worry.
I think this anonymous-hell-lover was someone who spent the best part of their school/college days (if ever they were educated) scribbling on public toilet walls. Better block them. You can't help getting them, the more popular you become.

Hey

I have been following super singer Jr. for the past 4 months.. Do I need to say that the show is very good... I am looking for the videos in youtube which i couldnt find. It would be great if you can get it n post in you tube..As I dont have a blogger account i am posting it anonymously.. Anyways i dont know whether this is the right place to put it

hi chinmayi

its nice that u publicised on those pissers.
these pissers find it hard to think on even writing a single proactive comment but its easy for them to slap a cowdung on to a nice poster - no brain work needed.

but the other side of the reality is that lots of criticism is directly proportional to your fame on the web.
congrats keep it up.

I notice that my comments haven't shown up so far. Have they been censored? Just curious.

WhO ElsE said...

Chinmayi - Glad that you wrote this piece!

Mr. Anonymous - There is nothing wrong with a critical comment.. Just that you should have the guts to reveal your identity while commenting - be it constructive or destructive.

Manoj said...

Hey c'mon guys stop flamin on anon. Anon is just trying to put forth his/her view.

And regarding the identity thing, how can you think everybody can just reveal their identity. Superman and Spiderman don't. Like this anon, here, could actually be the sweet old woman next door to chinmayi and they are like what.. best friends in the real world. Crazy place the web is. And if this woman here comes to know the real identity of the abuser, won't it be so weird? They'll both look at each other with tear filled eyes. And chinmayi goes ... "you ............ but why .......". And the anon just collapses and dies of guilt and the stress of having been found out.

Cool dudes. It happens.

And by the way, the post's title, is it viel or veil.

Manoj said...

Or maybe that's because most people will only respond to hate messages? Have you thought about it? Maybe you should stop replying to those and pay some attention to some real fans here.

Chinmayi Sripada /Chinmayee said...

anonymous: go on... take it all out.. you probably need a vent to your pent up anger. I shall keep publishing all your comments..

Chinmayi Sripada /Chinmayee said...

hey dilip.. not censored as such.. send me a mail.

Anonymous 2: hmm there are some on youtube, but I havent recorded any of the episodes. Let me see if I can get a hand on those.

I always believed enabling anonymous comments very important. It enables non-blogspotters/non googlers to have a say on a website (if you are a blogspot member )and it also brings that inherent point of freedom .Blogs were always meant for expression and just because you find anonymousxyz troubling you ,its never a good reason to have moderation .
I remember this particular post on Rashmi bansal's blog ( JAM editor) where she spoke about the IIPM lies and controversy .The anonymous comments were so ugly and it did nothing, absolutely nothin so damaging to her .
http://youthcurry.blogspot.com/2005/10/lies-damned-lies-and-fake-blogs.html
First ,i definitely like this move to help non-blogspotters like me to have a say here !

Anonymous said...

one solution that will really help solve this problem of identifying anonymous with non-blogspotters would be to support openid .Its secure and u dont need a blog account anywhere :) but will google listen upto is another question

and since im bored:
well, now. i will post without using my real name (you can find it quite easily though, since i entered my correct info when creating my blogger account), and in this message, i will also criticize you. why? because what you see here is not MY opinion. it's AN opinion. It's the opinion of someone you don't know, won't get to know and will never find a way to know. I'm unknown, so why not just stay with an unknown name? now. you might say that you won't listen to me because i don't use my real name. that i'm a coward, and that therefor, my opinion is not as good as anyone else's. well. screw you =S To me, it's only the ideas presented to me, when i read, that matters. If it is george bush, king dalahi lama or some beggar who sleeps in a cardboard box that presents them to me matters less than nothing. and to prove it: Prince, Marilyn Manson and George elliot. These three are all examples of people not having used their real names, but fictional ones. Just like anyone here on internet. Please go ahead and give me a laugh saying anything you have ever written, coming even close to the artistic merit, of anything these three have ever left the world to adore. well.. thought so. have a nice day/evening/night thinking this over. weather or not an opinion is good or bad, interesting or boring, well thought out or completly sacked, has never had anything to do with the name of whoever uttered them. or even had anything to do with weather or not the person even had a name (a name is only a tool, after all).

Posting blog is just to share their views in general. Y bloggers are anonymous, cos they don't want the things to be taken in the heart. In general, if you really worry about anonymous blogs, stop making it public. If its public, then you will be paid for your work done. Gotcha!

I suppose from now onwards, you [chinmayi] wont take things to heart.

PS: As our thalaivar sivaji always says, "COOL".

You seem to have generated many more sympathizers and well wishers, so your fan base has grown now, I think this post has recieved more comments than for any of your previous blog posts.Which also proves that your blog sucked till yesterday, and now suddenly it is becoming intresting , all due to that one anonymous person who was critical of you and your blog.

Just the previous day, I wrote a post on anons with destructive criticism.. Nice to see you taking on them too :)

Commenting here after a long time.. so, lemme mention a few things:

1) U were awesome in 'Sahara'..
2) Loved ur dubbing in SOK and Unnale..
3) Gr8 job in SSJ.. Ur interaction with the kids is very cool.. (Only sore thing is u mentioning 'participants' thrice in the ad for SSJ - next stage within secs..)

It was a surprise to see the voice specialist from Mumbai interact with the kids.. Oh boy, he was pretty strict indeed.. The anger in his eyes when the boys did some mistake.. OMG.. scary.. I haven't learnt music, but I still felt it was a gr8 idea to bring him to the show.. Whose idea was it?

Chin, we have seen lot many in thamiz bloggers, here too? cant believe it. One Suggestion, hope you know wht controversial is, objecting others opinion and keep on shuttling with their thoughts.

It is your blog, you can stop the non sense rather replying them. You have to. Being a celeb, i did not expect from this blog anymore, I am freq to this blog from the day one.

Hey Chins,

This post somehow missed my radar. Neways, this is exactly why you should shift to wordpress. A super automatic spam control algorithm which will take care of everything. You don't have to manually moderate or have a word verification to ward off spammers and anons.

Even better you can individually black list commenter, ban ips, black list words and hell a lot of stuff.

You wont even lose your traffic. With one click, you can import all your posts, labels, comments to wordpress withing a minute. And then redirect ur blogspot blog to wordpress... like I did to http://sagaro.wordpress.com

PS: You don't have to publish this comment... I couldn't find ur email, hence the comment...

Anonymous said...

Er.. didn't mean the comment to get published...and I meant http://sagaro.blogspot.com and not wordpress... just clarifying...

Hey Chinmayi,
