FAQ Airtel Super Singer Junior

Today was the final telecast of Airtel Super Singer Junior and starting next week it will be the second season of Jodi No 1
This post is also in reply to several comments/mails with regard to Airtel Super Singer Junior. A lot of times, with regard to why I did not sing when everyone else did. I did not feel that as a host, I have to reaffirm that I can sing in a talent hunt for children. Though Chitra ji and Usha Ji kept asking me, I sang for them alone privately and never on stage. Probably the producers also felt that the participants and the children would get restless if I sang.
In the finals, I did not realize in the height of having have to remember what to say that Vignesh was not given an award or anything to that effect, until Dr Balamuralikrishna brought it to my notice and thereafter the general public as well, wherever I go. It still happens, and I guess it will for a quite a while to come.
When I tell people that I have no idea what is going to happen, they do not believe me. Until I wear my make up and go into the set, I have no idea about the concept of what is going to be shot that particular day, how the competition is going to be taken forward, and of course no written script either. I would be given a briefing by the producers and then I ll have to remember as much as I can and blah-blah away. That explains the bloopers and the number of out-takes. There was only so much that I could remember in the last 15-20 minutes before the cameras started rolling. Almost every instruction was last minute, but I presume thats how reality shows are made like.
I have never known which special guest was going to come, like for instance the show where the Wild Card Round winner was announced, I knew that Mr Unnikrishnan had come after we had started shooting and just after I announced the ad break, before the announcement, I came to know that he was the special guest. These were instances when I wished I had more time to prepare to introduce the guest in a better fashion and the fact that I have to watch every word that I say, especially about other musicians and stalwarts. I would have been the happiest person if I had known that Dr Balamurali Krishna was going to come at least the previous day to do some reading up on my own.
The team was very dedicated about keeping their secrets to such an extent that even I never knew what was going to happen until I went to the floors to shoot.
In a similar manner with Airtel Super Singer, I knew only from SPB Sir when he announced that Nikhil Mathew won. The team refused to tell me.
Of course the entire team had too many things to take care of. All this last minute mugging probably did some good to my semantic memory!

And again, I do not know whether there will be an Airtel Super Singer or the Junior Part 2, this year or the next. And I do not know whether I will be hosting that either :)

Well, like you said I guess it's just how reality shows are, and I'm really glad about it, the way things are kept secretive. But yes, as you said, it sometimes helps that you know what would happen the week after so that you could prepare before hand and not so many bloopers. But everything seemed excellent, the whole show. Congrats to the whole team. Oh yes, I would definitely be waiting for the ASS and ASSJ Part 2.Couldnt watch ASS as Vijay TV was only available in my country since last Oct. I really loved watching ASSJ!!! Like you said, I honestly felt that more should have been said to Vignesh who was the runner-up.Something encouraging and uplifting. Anyways Chinmayi, congrats once again to the whole team who've made this show a success.

Hi Chin,

It's really sad that these episodes got to end. You really did awesome. Admired you a lot. Hmm.. But personally, I would have been more happier if you would have been also one of those judges. You have got talent and that magic voice. Your fans like us can't see you just comparing. :( Anyways... We miss you a lot... :) keep in touch... and tell us what's more to come!

Hey Chinmayee,

Maybe you will be the Chief Guest in part 2 - giving you the luxury to remember or mug nothing and arrive at the last moment, give away the prizes and leave - nice situation to be in !

you did a good job though ... an acceptable on irritant host - unlike other TV channel hosts !

btw: you should lower your voice a bit - coz it almost sounds like tamil movie villains ... my mom will quickly reach for her remote then !!

if you dont know all these !! tell me this ... whats the next song from Chinmayi-rahman combo ? ...

i had few surprises like Oru Deiyvam, E20U18, Guru and now Sivaji ... Whats next ??

Its kinda sad that super junior singer had to end... well all gd things have to come to an end...i guess

As many people have expressed, i truly feel that Vignesh should have at least gotten something for all the effort that he potrayed. He is really gd!!!:)Anyways, it would have been great if the producers made up an interactive website.. where we could get to know more about the super talented kids:)

Hope to see you in th next super singer?!!!:p

anyways the bloopers were fun sad that the show has ended . but it was definitely wrong on the part of the producers to dump vignesh without giving him any prize.paavam chinna paiyan how much he would have felt?. my motherinlaw felt so bad for him as she is his class teacher in his school. pls tell the organisers not to do something like this if assj 2 gonna come.

Hi Chinmayi,

I didnt get a chance to watch the finals of Super Singer Junior, but was in touch till the finals. After the wild card round i was expecting Balasarangan to be in the grand finale. But he was unfortunate. I was very much impressed by the way he sang with Anuradha ji (IR8 song). It was very sad to see his face on that day. But they are still young and have lots of time.

The show was great and ofcourse your performance. An impropthu performance on a program like this,is not that easy, that too in front of the musical gurus. Hats off to you.

I had few questions throughout the show. I was wondering how these kids going to handle the pressure at this young age. When they didn't make it to the next level(I dont want to use the word faiure or lost, coz they haven't really), they would have gone down completely right(The popularity of the show adding additional pressure)? Some might even have lost their faith, which eventually will put an end to their love for music.isn't it?

Its tough to judge what those kids feel..When we ourselves get disheartened at this age, i wonder how these kids going to take it.

I wish all best for these young singers.

Being an host and closely working with them have u ever had these kind of questions? It will be great if you can share them.

Chinmayi Sripada /Chinmayee said...

naanthanga: handle pressure? they do it way better than older people.. forget the pressure in the competition, what about every day pressure at school? and all of these children have taken part in innumerable competitions and have wons sacks of prizes. Thanks to the number of them these days. We get disheartened because we have not had so many competitions or the like. The children these days are very tough nuts, and much smarter than you think they are. I was surprized and shocked when I heard all that the children spoke of and said, most of the kids that were there used all the words under the sun. And they know which side of the bread is to buttered. It probably has to do with their upbringing and their school. Only God knows.

Unknown said...

hmmm. What you said seems to be true. I was reading your other article titled '..Curtains drawn for now'. We only think them as kids and children. They dont want to appear as kids in front of the camera. They are cautious about what they are doing and where they are doing it.In addition to upbringing and schooling, technology, and media plays a bigger part.I remember one of the participants(no more kids)explaining how he remixes songs in his comp..

Technology and proper exposure is taking them ahead of us. Just the same way as our parents feel about us :)

Awesome performance Chimaye...

Recently I happened to visit your photo blogs. Really cute snaps. I thought, why can't you write some blogs. Iam sorry about that. Just now I came to see your blogs. I felt very happy, so that I can share my words to you.

Regarding Airtel Super Singer Junior, I can't forget that show. Very cute childrens. I was stunned by their performance. Very clever.

Iam missing Vignesh, Krishnamoorthy, Dhanyashree, Deepthi, Balasaarangan, Aparna, many more.....

I liked your dance with Vignesh for that Something Something song. Great..

I enjoyed your way of hosting. Especially, that show which telecasted your mistakes. Sorry, can't help laughing.

You look pretty ya. Though I have long hair, I used to admire yours. Your voice is amazing.... Saahaana... What a voice... Keep going.....

I just completed watching the whole series of Super singer junior here in Canada, and I must say VIGNESH is my favourite. He really has an enchanting voice, and I'M REALLY MAD THAT HE, as the runner up was not acknowledged properly at the end. No one spoke any comforting words to him. I expected a little more from the judges. I was very disappointed. But my prayers are with Vignesh. He will definately become a music director in the future. ALL THE BEST VIGNESH ! Is there any way we could contact Vignesh?

Hi Chinmayi,
Greetings from Arlington, VA. USA.

I have become a huge fan of yours - you are wonderful and blessed with so many talents. Being an announcer and a stage performer I know how it is to be their on stage and I am really glad the way you did the Super singer Jr and adult version of it. Though I don’t have subscriptions to Viajy Tv - I have seen the recordings on You tube. The show is absolutely wonderful - congratts.

Being a comparer I know how importance it is to have good pronunciation and as we all know it has become a missing factor in our RJ/VJ community but when I hear you I am really happy and grateful to you for the efforts that you are making in balancing Tamil and English in announcing a show – great job Chinmayi -keep it up.
Yesterday I happened to see a recording on Kumudam's site - that had interviews of HarishRagavendra and your self. By listing to it - and based on my limited observation on you 2 it’s clear how simple you guys are compared to some upcoming artist.

I am sorry and sad to say this but when I view the video of the super singer jr. finalist - Krishnamoorthy I am really disappointed with the behavior/comments of his, of course he is talented but that’s not the only thing an artist needs; discipline - is a key element for success and this something that needs to be enforced by the parents and gurus who train these talents. Being in the US for 8 years and taken part in varies shows I have come a cross lots of talents especially kids who has the same problem but I think all of them needs to learn a lot from people likes SPB sir, Jesusdas sir, Chirtra madam, Janaki amma and of course from Harish and your self – as how an artist should be.

Chinmayi, what ever I have mentioned here is just my view on this topic again good luck for you and I am sure when u get that MILLION RUPPEES (kumudam.com) - you will be able to study everything that u wanted (hats of what a thought).

Keep up the good work and may god bless you with more success.

Best.
RJ - from Arlington, VA

back singer like you Chinmayi, ah you have wonderful voice. But Super Singer Jounir had alot of dramatic, I can't believe that Vignesh didn't win, but maybe you could have give something more then a two trophies.

I just finished watching the airtel super singer contest. I must say that all the kids are blessed with such a great talent. It was very nice to bring hidden special talents to camera like this. From the begging Vigesh has touched my heart with his performance. I am a mother myself residing in Canada. I really want to congratulate him my self. Is it possible to get his contact information please? I think he is such a bright child along with many others. I am pretty sure Vignesh will become a music director in the future. All the very best to Vignesh.

Chinmayi, what can I say.... you are an awesome host. You did a great job.
