Satham Podadhey

And I am the voice of Padma Priya in the movie. Though I have known Vasanth sir for a long while this is the first time I am working for his movie. And it so happened that it had to be for dubbing.
The technical crew at the studio, I have already worked with before, for Unnale Unnale. And working there is always super fun. The sessions are rip roaring funny and in between I emote for the actress. Also one of the things is that during a voice test, we keep modulating my voice, change it here, fine tune it there to adapt to the particular heroine. And the problem, is to remember that 'voice' until the end of the dubbing sessions. Vasanth sir had to keep telling me not to pester him and 'be serious'. The dubbing studio, especially this particular one brings out the nuttier side in me. Probably because of the comfort level I share with the engineers there and they are some of the best minds. The soundscape artistes at this studio have won about 7-8 national awards over the years. And the point is I could be wrong in the numbers. For all I know it could be more than 10.
There was one particular portion in the movie where I had to sound as if my voice was being heard through a drain pipe. And they actually brought out a huge PVC pipe that is stocked in the studio for such purposes. And I had to speak through it. Like the say the magic is in the detail. One actually realizes the efforts that go in making a movie while dubbing.
Vasanth sir is a wonderful teacher and sometimes I was scared of him. One particular scene was very intense and the first time I saw it before dubbing I broke down sobbing. I could not handle it. And when it came to dubbing that scene, I did it along with Nithin Sathya (he also acted in chennai 600028) and as he dubbed I had to react and scream. I was and am still afraid of Nithin, for some weird reason. So half the screams came out because he was right next to me shouting and Vasanth sir knew how to bring out the terror as well. Needless to say I broke down while the scene was being dubbed, but this time I spoke some words out as well, which clinched it. This is one of the most memorable dubbing episodes in my life and will always be.
And I am yet to watch the movie in the big screen. Once I do, I guess I ll remember some more.
Reminds me to take pictures next time.

Why do cine-oriented folks have to refer to people as 'Sir' or 'Madam'?
If the point is to give respect, why not 'Mr.Vasanth' or 'Mrs.Chitra' instead of Vasanth Sir.
It looks a little silly.
This seems to be the case only with Kollywood and Tollywood I guess. Any particular reasons?

hmm thats the norm.. this is not the corporate world.. at least not yet.. why not Mr/Ms? Blame it on the fiery lines in tamil cinema where they MISTER so-and-so.. they have used mister only when spitting fire..

Appave Nenanechean Man !!

Hahah.. I was telling my friends when I was watching that I think that Chinmayyi is the Voice over.. Hahah.. My ears didnt fail me..

The movie was above average.. But the performance by entire cast was amazing.. And I have to say this again.. Ur voice and the expressions in ur voice can be felt very well.. Hahah.. One scene in particular was when Padmapriya was being beaten up by Nithin Satya for the first time.. And I also liked the way you said ,
'Ramana Ramana' ! hahaha.. It was really cute..!!

True. Forget the Tamil movies, take Chennai, not all corporates prefer being called as Mr or Ms.

There are a number of higher ranking officials who interpret Mr/Ms as 'being rude'.

Provided you are an average citizen, anybody has the guts to call a police inspector as Mr/Ms so & so? :D

Interesting details. Always assumeed that dubbing artists had the easier role to eassay in the whole process.

Digress: Watched the interview with Harris Jeyaraj. Nice try in keeping the conversation in Tamil, on both sides. I guess it was a 60% success. I think my favourite question was the one where you asked him to remember the few months before his first break.

Chinamyi - you mentioned that you have sung a song for IR in telugu but you have sung for him in Tamil too, it is one of the beautiful melodies of IR in recent past... 'Engu Piranthathu' from 'Vishwa Thulasi', i am suprised that you forgot such a beautiful song you have sung.... Tippu has sung the male part...

Hi Chinmayi!
Had been a regular reader of your blog for quite some time now.

Watched 'Satham Podadhey' in INOX. Good movie. Good story line. Left the theatre with a heavy heart. Reason : I hate domestic violence.

How ever these comments are to let you know that you have done a good job and your voice is HEARD well throughout the movie. Especially 'Ramana! Ramana!' :-)

Wishing you good luck in expanding your horizons in different fields.

Did you notice the movie name is Satham Podathey and i beleive the whole movie other than the actors every others would have screamed.

I think this is the strengh of our film makers.

Excellent title.

Surprised to hear that you have voiced Padma Priya.

I have met our CHINNA KUYIL and have told her that i would like to see her hand writing.

But we are lucky with you because, we have heard a lot, you speaking and watching you, here writing.

You are really lucky and we because of you.

The way you write the articles is natural and it simply attracts the readers.

You are a nice person and a good singer.

As well, we all seen your Vijay TV Airtel prog and the mistakes you have done, it was really funny and my mother loved it and you a lot.

Keep going the same way all through your life.

All the Best!!!!!

Musically Yours
