A request

Several times I have received mails or comments on my blog to help raise funds. 98% of the times it has been from people I do not know, so I have refrained from publishing anything on this blog, mainly because, to tell you the truth, I am not sure whether it is a genuine case.
I got this comment on my blog a couple of days ago and for some reason I am blogging about it.
A lot of times Mom has told me, that sometimes there seems like there is a lot of help that is being generated for the downtrodden, weaker sections of the society, differently abled children. But there was never an organization to help foster brilliant minds. The most brilliant children have to go to mediocre schools, be treated like mediocrity and eventually they are conditioned to be mediocre.
And the same way, there would be families which look well-off but they might be struggling to pay their bills, or their children's education. Mom said there must be an organization, that takes care of such families, ANONYMOUSLY. Maybe send them cheques, that will take care of their toughest time, until they find their footing, without knowing where it is coming from. And maybe we would be able to do something like that in the near future. I think everyone has the right to dignity. We believe in the Tamizh proverb which says if your right hand is helping someone, even your left hand should not know about it. And for some reason, I am reminded of Mother Teresa's words. It may be totally out of context here, not connected at all with the previous line or the post in general, but something tells me to type this down. She apparently said "Dont call me for an anti-war rally, but call for me a peace rally instead".
Sometimes, if you have been following Mom's blogs as well, (she hasn't been able to keep up with that, no thanks to me) you should probably read this post.
Coming back this is the comment I got on a previous post

@ vaal paiyan..
i appreciate ur attitude of trying to be different but not at the cost of someone's life.I am sure if you can read english , you should go to www.saveshankar.com. Read the reports, contact the doctor mentioned in the reports etc.I have better ways to make money in chicago than through a fake website.

@kalyan

thanks a lot :)

To another anonymous: Well my mom's achievements have not been publicised. She, like most people in research has achieved far more than most people in the limelight :) Maybe if you check that out you'll know what she is talking about

Hey Chinmayi,

I know i may be wrong in this idea of mine. But I am a person who used to donate to people as and when a help is needed. To tell you the truth had donated a reasonable part of my income on give-off's !! But ONE BAD DAY made me to think twice and infact reduce this act of mine.

This happened when i was in Velachery a couple of years ago. I was in my friends mobile shop having a small chat with him. A guy came to us and said " SIR I NEED TO GO TO CHENGALPUT, THATS MY HOMETOWN. BUT UNFORTUNATELY I MISSED MY WALLET, SO DO NOT HAVE MONEY. ALSO HE SAID HIS SISTER WAS PREGNANT AND WAS EXPECTING A BABY THE NEXT DAY. SO HE HAS TO BE THERE SOMEHOW TO SIGN SOME DOCUMENT OR SOMETHING. AND HE STARTED CRYING. "
My friend and me were like nearly on tears and I in person gave that guy 30 bucks out of the 40 bucks i had for the petrol.

Now here is the shock, TWO DAYS LATER I SEE THE GUY IN A BAJJI SHOP IN T.NAGAR in a completely different and a decent dress with a gang of friends happily having bajji's !! And the worst they started running away as soon as they saw me. I was 200% percent sure he had taken a chance on me.

This bad experience i try to spread to people not make them stop donating but to make them be careful when they do so. Because, this act for a good cause is misused by a few evils.

Anyways, not all are bad and not all are good is my moral. :)

Hi, it has been a while since I read ur blog. But this post has moved me to write something. I'm a Malaysian and I too have faced numerous pleas to my charitable side.

For the large part, I give. Like Abhilash here, I too have known con-types. But I'm a firm believer in karma. I depend on my instincts to tell me if people are genuine or not.

There was a time when I was eating at a food court when a blind man with a cane visited my table asking donation. I gave and continued eating. Once I had finished, I exited the place only to find the guy hailing and getting into a cab, with a wad of cash in his fist.

I cud have been made cynical by that experience. When I gave, I gave with a sincerity to help. What he does with it or whether he conned me is a question between him and God. What goes around comes around.

I still give, sometimes cash, sometimes my blood, sometimes I volunteer my services for free.

Because somewhere out there, someone gets to keep body and soul together another day.

Thanks for the post. And yeah, I love your voice, both spoken and sung.

hi chinmayi...

I stay in Illinois,US. first let me say you have got a beautiful voice and it is very mesmerising.
I also read about shankar. I cant help him finanacially since im a house wife. But I can pray for him, since i was at his place with a tumour too. i know the pain...
sometimes life is too precious to lose. he will be in my prayers and i pray sincerely that he recovers soon.

i have a request chinmayi for you... i dont know if you can do it.But this is for my husband, who was my soul support during my chemo session. Today im healthy and fine. But i want to dedicate a song for him. Please could you sing the song munbe vaa from sillu nu oru kaadhal. We watch your program on the net. so if you get a chance..

I feel im asking you too much..But Im sorry to trouble you. It is also a little suggestion from bathroom singers like us that if you could host a program for couples like me and my husband who sing inside the shower. But no one to motivate us.. my husband sings so well,i wish someday he would sing in airtel..today it is his birthday and he admires you and your voice. the best i could do for him is just blog to you..

Chinmayi you look so pretty in all your dresses, waiting to see you in a sari...

good luck and keep it going...!

hope you recover soon from your"nosy issue"

take care

Chinmayi,

Unrelated to this post to an extent but in a way related.

We all use Wikipedia at some point or other. This non-profit organization is raising money and have a target of US $ 3 million. This is not yet accomplished.

Can you make a blog post about Wikipedia and make an appeal to your fans for this foundation?

I felt that celebrities like you can help for this.

hi Chinmayi

The topic u had in ahaa fm is nice one.One suggestion from my side. The persons who goes against to traffic rules must be fined.Depending upon fined receipt that Traffic police officer must be rewarded with some prizes, medal during some ocassions or money from Government.Recognition is more important.this will avoid the bribing.
